AquaSox split doubleheader with Emeralds

EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox lost the first game 2-0, but won the second game 9-6 to split a doubleheader with the Eugene Emeralds on Wednesday at Funko Field.

In the opener, Emerson Hancock returned from a month-long stint on the sideline due to a shoulder injury, but Everett’s offense was held to just two hits in a shutout loss.

Hancock allowed no runs and one hit in 1.1 innings while striking out two and walking one. Franklin Van Gurp allowed two runs on four hits in the next 3.2 innings before Nolan Hoffman closed the game with two perfect frames in his High-A debut.

Jake Anchia and Joseph Rosa had the lone base hits for the AquaSox.

In the nightcap, the AquaSox raced out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and hung on for the win.

In his first game at the High-A level, Matt Scheffler went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in for Everett (49-24). Connor Hoover added a two-run home run and Kaden Polcovich hit a solo blast for the AquaSox. Dariel Gomez went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBI.

Carter Aldrete went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in for Eugene (42-32).
