Letter on Christian nationalists was fearmongering

The writer of a recent letter to the editor seems to think people should be wary of “Christian dominionists” and “Christian nationalists.” Basically, the reader is a fearmongerer, the kind of person this paper promotes big time.

I have never run into a “dominionist” or a “nationalist” in any of the many churches I have attended over decades of being an evangelical Christian in the cities I have lived in. No, I’ve only run into people who are assets to their communities. Evangelicals of all stripes are running food and clothing banks, adopting children, foster parenting, and providing shelters such as the missions. As a volunteer chaplain at a jail, I saw these groups minister to inmates leaving jail on a regular basis, many times as the only groups out there who had compassionate spirits and were not paid for their efforts.

The reader admits evangelicals “can be wonderful people who abide by the rules of our democratic society.” Bet he doesn’t have a problem, though, with the leftist law-breaking groups, such as Black Lives Matter or antifa, many of whom destroyed neighborhoods and cities for months without repercussions or intervention.
