Police have been there when we most need them

With tears still in my eyes, after watching the procession and service for Everett’s fallen officer Dan Rocha (“‘Never forgotten’: Memorial honors slain Everett police officer,” The Herald, April 4), I sit here and recall the time when I was personally helped by a police officer.

I have no name to praise and thank, just the reality of a kind, gentle and dedicated officer tending to me in my time of need. There was no admonishment, no disappointment in his tone, no hurried resolve. I was a person in need, frightened and frenzied. My personal officer, how do I say thank you? You led me home, saluted my American Flag hanging from my eave, and saw me to my door. I was safe. Officer Rocha, you gave your life to what I equate to the service I was given by my personal officer. I was humbled by his grace and dedicated service. These tears and gratitude are for you both and to all the officers who serve so selflessly.

You make me feel safe and important. Thank you.
