What education are kids getting for our tax dollars?

Regarding a recent letter to the editor, I agree with the writer who wisely warns against making judgments against people on affiliations, such as the country they live in (Russia). So it is interesting to me that the writer then does exactly what he warns against! He implies that anyone who voted for Trump is an uneducated idiot. My family of six, all college educated, three of whom are lawyers, must also, by implication, be cognitively challenged because we all voted for Trump, not once, but twice. Apparently, so are the 70 million who voted for Trump.

Hypocrisy abounds!

Then the writer makes a statement that we are currently spending far more on the military than education (K-12 and higher education). A quick search on the internet will prove that is false. See for yourself! Significantly, the money spent on education does not equate with scholastic standing, especially when compared to other countries.

Regarding reading, science, and math, the U.S. are rated 25th in the world. The sad truth is, over time, the more we spend, the worse our educational standing. Many countries listed better than us spend significantly less! Clearly, we are not getting the bang for our bucks.
