38th LD, Pos. 2: We need more like Mark James

The last couple of years have been tough for business owners. Beginning my day finding a homeless man asleep in a blanket in front of my tax business on State Avenue was unsettling.

I had several appointments for that day and my focus was on serving them. I unsuccessfully tried to wake the sleeping man and even offered him some money to buy food.

At an immediate loss as to what to do next, I texted my friend and Marysville City Council member Mark James, who is running for state representative in the 38th District, Pos. 2. Mark suggested calling 911 because police officers can direct them to places they can be helped.

Unbeknownst to me, James had taken it upon himself to drive to my office, phoned the Salvation Army to arrange a meal and accompanied him to the Salvation Army.

I introduced James to my client only because she was genuinely impressed by his prompt response, and that he was a public official.

It’s really nice to know that there are still some good public servants out there who are good-hearted people who love their city and its people.

Until the homeless situation is under control, and if you run a business, be sure to have friends who care or the right contact at a local charity.

We need more kind and resourceful people like Mark James in office.
