Marysville apartment fire displaces seven

MARSYVILLE — An apartment fire in Marysville displaced seven people early Saturday morning, the Marysville Fire District said.
Just before 1:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to an apartment complex on 10th street and Columbia Avenue and found flames already spewing from a second-story unit. It took over an hour to extinguish the fire, according to Marysville fire authorities.
Responders helped an elderly resident evacuate a nearby unit. All other residents escaped on their own and no one else was hurt.
The fire damaged two apartments and six other units had smoke and water damage. The Red Cross are assisting the displaced residents.
Fire officials were investigating the cause Saturday. The building did not contain fire sprinklers and was constructed before fire sprinkler requirements existed, according to the Marysville fire department.
It is the third fire in the area in less than a week, Marysville Fire District spokesperson Christie Veley said. Fire authorities urge the community to test their fire alarms to ensure they are working.
