Fossil fuel dependence prevents accountability

As massive, raging fires burn and foul the air — like the one currently consuming much of Quebec — mass dependence on fossil fuel helps keep the average consumer quiet about the planet’s greatest polluter.
A large portion of the populace is too tired and worried about money, food and housing to criticize policies that cause environmental damage, or the parties responsible. This is particularly true when the consequences are not immediately observable.
Astronauts typically express awe and even love for the beautiful Earth below while they’re in orbit. I wonder how they feel when seeing the immense pollution from global warming?
If the planet’s most freely-polluting corporate CEOs, government leaders and consumers rocketed far enough above the earth for orbit, would it change their support of Big Fossil Fuel?
