MARYSVILLE — A two-car crash on northbound I-5 led to serious injuries Thursday morning and blocked traffic near Marysville, according to Washington State Patrol.

Around 7:14 a.m., a driver going south on I-5 near exit 199 hit the concrete barrier dividing the two directions, went into the other side and crashed into another car going north, trooper Kelsey Harding said.

There may have been a medical reason for the crash, Harding said.

The injuries were serious, and both drivers were taken to the hospital, Harding said.

Drivers were being diverted to 4th Street in Marysville. Around 9 a.m., backups were stretching to downtown Everett.

Around 9:30 a.m., the road was cleared and all lanes on I-5 reopened, according to a tweet from the Department of Transportation.
