Insults at fairgrounds not a good look for GOP

As a concerned citizen and former local Democratic Party leader, I was shocked to hear about several members of the Snohomish County Republican Party repeatedly taunting an overweight Democratic volunteer at the recent Evergreen State Fair at the Monroe fairgrounds.

We may have explicit policy differences, but we are Americans and if we want to be proud of our country and its values we need to stop talking about it and start living by example. One way to do that is simply by treating those around you — even those with whom we disagree — with dignity and respect. After all, most of us involved in the democratic process are doing so because we care about our communities and thus, we care about people. Anyone who isn’t in politics for those reasons needs to get out.

If you want to make America great again have some decency and courtesy for your fellow citizens and start being a better example of what America can be. You’re not only representing the face of your own party, you’re representing the face of our nation, too.
