The Athlete of the Week nominees for Sept. 4-10. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper.

This week’s nominees

Zaveon Jones | Mountlake Terrace | Football

Jones, a senior, piled up 303 yards (252 rushing, 51 receiving) and three rushing TDs in the Hawks 35-21 win over Snohomish on Sept. 8. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss on defense.

Ben Lee | Jackson | Boys Tennis

Lee, a junior, topped Shorewood’s JD Drake 6-2, 6-3 in a No. 1 singles match between returning state qualifiers on Sept. 5. He also beat Shorecrest’s Haakon Jakobsen 6-0, 6-0 on Sept. 7.

Kolton Matson | Lake Stevens | Football

After tossing six TD passes in Week 1, Matson, a junior, threw four TD passes and ran for the deciding score as the Vikings earned a come-from-behind 34-31 victory over Class 3A state power Bellevue on Sept. 8.

Bailey Matthew | Shorecrest | Girls Soccer

Matthew, a junior, netted a hat trick in the Scots’ 7-0 win over Squalicum on Sept. 5, and added a goal as Shorecrest edged Meadowdale 3-2 on Sept. 7.

Ava Nowak | Glacier Peak | Volleyball

Nowak, a junior, racked up 37 kills and 22 digs over a trio of victories for the Grizzlies. Her week included 12 kills and eight digs in a 3-1 win over rival Snohomish on Sept. 5, and 18 kills and seven digs in a 3-1 victory over Bishop Blanchet on Sept. 7.
