Fourth of July fireworks money should be spent on other needs

What can I say? $75,000 goes up in flames while governments and school systems at every level are broke, busted (“Everett gives another shot to company behind dud of a Fourth of July,” The Herald, Feb. 7).
What kind of society is this!? We could at least support a local food bank or house a few more people with that $75,000. But no, let’s just light it on fire! Oh, and I wonder what happened to last year’s no-show refund? Money like that just evaporates in the hands of politicians?
