Child tax credit good step against ‘tax doom loop’

Andrew Duehren’s explanation of the “tax doom loop,” shows why the inequality gap between rich and poor continues to widen. (‘Can Democrats stop the ‘tax doom loop’?” The Herald, Sept. 4). Sadly, the real doom right now threatens those experiencing poverty. Choosing between rent and food, between paying bills and homelessness, every day is a stressful struggle.

Once the expanded child tax credit cut child poverty by 46 percent, but wasn’t renewed. Renewing this life-changing tax credit and passing other ones that help struggling families are desperately needed. Our calls and letters to those who represent us in Congress will encourage them set up a tax system that is fair to all, resulting in every American being able to afford the basics for a decent life.
