Last American singles player at French Open loses

PARIS — Sloane Stephens lost to fourth-seeded Simona Halep of Romania 6-4, 6-3 in the French Open’s fourth round on Monday, leaving no American singles players in the tournament.
The 15th-seeded Stephens made 35 unforced errors, 10 more than Halep, and simply could not hold serve, getting broken 6 of 9 times.
The match was tied at 4-4 in the first set when Halep took control by winning the next four games.
Halep reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros for the first time.
