The Athlete of the Week nominees for May 17-23. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Wednesday’s paper.

Olivia Martinez | Kamiak softball
In a state-clinching, 8-6 win over Redmond on May 11, the sophomore drove in six runs with a three-run home run in the first inning, and added a bases-loaded double in the second inning for three more RBI. Martinez won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for May 10-16 by claiming 156 (39.29%) of the 397 votes.

Kimberly Beard | King’s girls track & field
Beard, who holds the state’s top discus mark across all classifications this season, won the discus, shot put and javelin at the 1A District 1-2 Championships.
Caleb Butler | Shorewood boys soccer
The junior defender scored a goal against Mountain View in a Round of 16 game and another in a quarterfinal win over Eastside Catholic to help send the Stormrays to the Class 3A state semifinals.
Allison Mervin | Mountlake Terrace girls track & field
The senior won the long jump and the triple jump while finishing second in the 100, and anchoring the Hawks’ 400-meter relay team to a runner-up finish.
Isa Palmer | Cascade boys track & field
The senior won the javelin at the 4A District 1-2 tournament with a throw of 122 feet, 1 inch.
Chanyoung Park | Jackson girls golf
The junior placed second at the Class 4A state tournament with a one-under 143 (72-71) May 19-20 at Hawks Prairie Golf Club.
Hugo Ramires | Lake Stevens boy golf
Ramires finished second in the Class 4A state tournament with a two-day total of even par 144 at Eagles Pride Golf Course.
