Update: Lynnwood woman killed in crash with semi-truck on Highway 99

EVERETT — A deadly motorcycle crash that closed southbound Highway 99 in Lynnwood for much of Thursday morning is no longer believed to be a hit-and-run after an investigation by highway patrol.

Troopers responded just after 4:30 a.m. on Thursday near Lincoln Way for a crash involving a semi-truck and a motorcyclist, Washington State Highway Patrol spokesperson Kelsey Harding said.

Shortly after the crash, troopers said they were investigating the incident as a hit-and-run because the semi-truck did not stay on scene.

Detectives were told after the crash the driver of the semi-truck stopped his vehicle, got out and walked around the vehicle before he left the scene of the crash, a release said.

After further investigation, detectives now believe the driver did not know they had hit someone, which is necessary for a crash to be considered a hit-and-run, Harding said.

Highway Patrol identified the motorcyclist who was killed as Karen Kim, 38, from Lynnwood, according to a release sent Thursday.

Troopers said the woman was merging onto Highway 99 from 31st Avenue West when she hit the trailer of the semi-truck.

Investigators closed the Highway 99 for nearly five hours at Highway 525 before reopening the road around 9:30 a.m., updates from the Washington State Department of Transportation said.

Troopers did not say if any charges are still expected in connection to the crash.
