Sox drop Vancouver series, fall to .500

The Everett AquaSox (54-54, 21-21 second half, fourth in Northwest League) emerged on the losing end of things during the series finale against the Vancouver Canadians (49-59, 22-20 second half, second in Northwest League), falling 9-3 at Everett Memorial Stadium on Sunday.

The teams exchanged scoring blows in the first inning with Everett coming out ahead 2-1 at the end of the frame. Ty Southisene homered for Vancouver on the first pitch of the game, and Brandon Eike hit into an RBI groundout to tie the game after Luke Stevenson walked and Korbyn Dickerson singled. Setting the AquaSox out front was Aiden Taurek, who hit a sacrifice fly to plate Dickerson.

Vancouver took the lead from Everett during the top of the fourth courtesy of Edward Duran. Batting after Gable Mitchell walked and Austin Smith doubled, Duran delivered a two-run double to center field to swing the score in favor of the Canadians. Furthering their lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth was Peyton Williams, who mashed a solo home run for his fourth homer in his last four games.

Everett poked away at Vancouver’s advantage in the bottom of the seventh, bringing home their first run since the bottom of the first. After Cesar Quintas walked and stole second base, Axel Sanchez knocked an RBI single to center field for the Frogs’ final run of the game.

The Canadians rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth inning, putting the game out of reach for the AquaSox. Canadians right-hander Carson Myers held the Frogs out of the scoring column across the game’s final two frames, locking down a series victory for his team in what was Vancouver’s fourth win of the week.

Saturday’s game

Although the game-tying run came to the plate in the game’s final inning, the Everett AquaSox fell to the Vancouver Canadians 11-8 at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The Canadians took an early 2-0 lead, jumping ahead during the top of the first inning. Ty Southisene tripled on the third pitch of the game, allowing Jake Casey to smash a two-run home run before an out was recorded.

Trailing across the first two frames, the AquaSox offense battled back to take a one-run lead in the bottom of the third inning thanks to the bat of Brandon Eike. With two runners on base, Eike launched his 23rd home run of the season, clearing the fence in left field to further his Northwest League lead in the category.

Vancouver rallied for three more runs of their own during the top of the fourth, regaining the lead. Austin Smith knotted the game 3-3 by hitting a solo homer, and each of Bryce Chance and Southisene delivered RBI singles to set the Canadians ahead. Everett rallied following Vancouver’s spark, though, to steal the lead right back. Cesar Quintas knocked an RBI single to bring the Frogs within a run, and Aiden Taurek roped a bases-clearing double to give his team a 7-5 advantage.

Dueling in a back-and-forth matchup, the Canadians plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-7 lead. Maddox Latta lasered a solo homer to spark the rally, and Chance contributed an RBI double to tie the game. Providing the game-winning blow was Peyton Williams, who drilled a three-run home run to right center field to set the Canadians ahead for good. With the launch, Williams has now homered three times in his last three games played.

Chance provided Vancouver an insurance run during the next frame, hitting an RBI single to raise his RBI total to three on the night. Luke Stevenson shaved one run off of the Frogs’ deficit in the bottom of the eighth by hitting into an RBI groundout, but the efforts ultimately fell short as the Canadians threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to lock down their third victory of the six-game series.

Pitching in a rehab appearance for the AquaSox, Seattle Mariners right-hander Carlos Vargas dealt one scoreless inning of work in his Everett Memorial Stadium debut. The 26-year-old native of Moca, Dominican Republic, allowed zero hits and zero runs while walking none and striking out none.

Friday’s game

Fueled by a six-run seventh inning, the Vancouver Canadians defeated the Everett AquaSox 7-4.

Vancouver found scoring territory first during the top of the third inning as Austin Smith delivered a solo home run to right center field, breaking the scoreless knot. However, the Canadians’ lead did not last long as the AquaSox tied the game in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of Korbyn Dickerson. Facing a 1-2 count, Dickerson launched the baseball over the wall in left center field for his third long ball of the 2026 season.

Anthony Donofrio broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth inning, crushing a solo home run to right center field to set the AquaSox ahead by a run. Donofrio’s shot was his eighth homer of the year and his fifth of the season at Everett Memorial Stadium. Everett starting pitcher Colton Shaw departed upon throwing six innings, striking out eight Canadians batters along the way.

The Canadians surged for six runs during the top of the seventh, jumping out front 7-2 by stringing together six base hits. Everett’s offense notched two more runs in the game’s final frame as Luis Suisbel hit a two-run home run, but the late rally efforts were ultimately not enough as Everett fell for the second time during the six-game Northwest League series.
