Business snapshot: Turner’s Bar & Grill in Everett

What: This sports bar and grill has been an Everett fixture, in a few different downtown locations, since the late 1970s.

Where: 2015 Hewitt Ave., Everett.

Owner: Pat Lorbiecki of Snohomish.

Employees: About 10.

Moving story: Turner’s closed several weeks ago after operating in its big location on the northwest corner of Hewitt Avenue and Broadway since 2001. The new location next door, which was most recently home of Alligator Soul before it moved, is designed to be a bit quieter and more upscale, Lorbiecki said. It also happens to be Turner’s original location from way back.

Other changes: Unlike the old Turner’s, there will be no pool tables and the menu will go for a healthier range of food than the typical “burger basket menu,” Lorbiecki said.

Biggest challenge next 12 months: Dealing with the slower nighttime crowd in downtown Everett. With fewer major events at Comcast Arena at Everett Events Center, “it’s a ghost town now,” Lorbiecki said. “I think we’ll be fine, though.” He has met with other downtown restaurant and bar owners interested in jointly marketing the nightlife spots in Everett.

Notable: The back bar in Turner’s dates back about 100 years and has been with the business since the beginning. It took 15 people to move it from next door. The bar’s new location has decidedly more high-tech features as well. There are five high-definition televisions and a 100-inch, high-def projection screen for optimum viewing of big sports events.

Quotable: “It’s a change of scenery, an opportunity to move back where it started, downsize and give it a classier look,” Lorbiecki said of his new location. “A lot of people are looking for something that’s a step up from the rowdier crowd we had at the old place.”
