LivingSocial daily coupon arrives in county

EVERETT — LivingSocial, a national online daily coupon source, debuted Jan. 13 in Snohomish County in competition with The Herald’s HeraldNet Daily Deal and Groupon.
All three sites offer subscribers a daily coupon featuring a discounted product or service from a local business. LivingSocial’s first Snohomish County coupon offered $30 of food and drink at Mountlake Terrace’s Cinnebar movie theater for $15.
HeraldNet’s Daily Deal that day offered a new patient exam, cleaning and X-rays or teeth whitening with Everett dentist Scott Westford. The $300 value was available to subscribers for $59.
HeraldNet’s Daily Deal presents offers from Snohomish County businesses at discounts of at least 50 percent.
As a multimedia company, The Herald uses multiple avenues to promote the offers, including The Herald newspaper, online on HeraldNet and through e-mail, Facebook and Twitter, said Kelly Hulin, The Herald’s director of marketing and interactive media.
“We’ve been tremendously pleased by the response from consumers,” Hulin said. “They love receiving these deals each day and we continually receive suggestions for future deals.
“As a trusted brand in Snohomish County, our long-term goal is to grow successful partnerships with local businesses,” she said. “We work with them personally to create effective offers that will result in return customers.”
As of Jan. 13, HeraldNet’s Daily Deal had 21,288 subscribers.
HeraldNet’s Daily Deal and LivingSocial’s coupon offers are both valid for 24 hours. The deals are available to any subscriber who wants to buy each day’s offer.
Groupon coupons differ in that they require a minimum number of subscribers to opt in before the daily offer is valid for all subscribers. Groupon targets the Seattle and Tacoma areas, not Snohomish County specifically. Groupon’s Jan. 13 offer was for $110 of services for $50 at a salon in Federal Way.
LivingSocial also launched Jan. 13 in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Jackson, Miss.; San Diego; Boston; Gainesville, Fla.; Madison, Wis.; and Plano, Texas, according to the company’s press materials.
