Garden-book signings: Third Place Books hosts two book signings with garden book authors on June 12.
At noon, join landscape architect and author of “The Northwest Cottage Garden,” Andrew Schulman, for his slide show illustrating how you can create your own cottage garden.
At 4 p.m., Cass Turnbull, author of “Cass Turnbull’s Guide to Pruning,” presents a slide show and discussion.

Garden art deadline: The Arts Council of Snohomish County is seeking artwork for an upcoming exhibit, “Art of the Garden,” a biannual exhibit.
Work in all mediums will be accepted. Artists must submit slides or photographs with a stamped, self-addressed envelope by Wednesday to Carie Collver, 1507 Wall St., Everett 98201, or e-mail ccollver@artscouncilofsnoco.org.
Works will be on display from July 1 through Aug. 26. For more information, call 425-257-8380.
Home garden competition: The Pacific Northwest Gardens Competition for home gardeners is accepting entries from gardeners in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, and Bainbridge Island.
Prizes include travel packages to London and San Francisco, $500 cash and $100 gift certificates from Swanson’s Nursery.
Deadline for entry is June 14.

Garden art in the park: The annual garden art show Sorticulture wil take place June 19 and 20 this year at Legion Memorial Park.
Next week’s Home &Garden section will be the official guide to the event, including a map of all vendors and lots of other useful information.
This two-day garden party features more than 90 booths with garden art of every sort, plant sales from 20 specialty nurseries, a large scale sculpture garden, live music, food and children’s activities.
Garden experts will present with lectures and demonstrations. And you can stop by and say hi to Home &Garden editors at The Herald’s booth.
Sorticulture runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 19 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 20. Legion Memorial Park is at 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett. There will be free shuttle buses from Everett Community College parking areas and from Everett Station.

Horticulture course for credit: This summer, Edmonds Community College offers an evening horticulture careers class for students interested in careers in the green industry.
Courses will be 6 to 7:50 p.m. Wednesdays, July 7 through Aug. 4. It is a one-credit class.

Merit tickets: The fourth annual Gardens of Merit Tour, scheduled for June 26, will benefit the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens at Legion Park.
This year’s tour features seven privately owned gardens within Everett, each reflecting the personal style of its owner. The arboretum will also have live musical entertainment, plant sales and a raffle.
Tickets are $10. Tickets also will be available for a guided bus tour with Steve Smith, the Whistlin’ Gardener and owner of Sunnyside Gardens in Marysville. Tickets for the guided tour are $30 and include a box lunch.

Whidbey Island tour: The ninth annual Whidbey Island Garden Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 26.
The tour stops at six private gardens on Whidbey Island and features all types of growing things, including roses and rare and unusual plants, stops at an organic farm and a homestead.
Tickets are $20, $10 ages 12 and younger.

Historic house tours: The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and Historic Seattle expand monthly public tours of two Seattle historic homes, the Stimson-Green Mansion and the H.H. Dearborn House.
Tours are 1 to 2:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month and 5:30 to 7 p.m. the fourth Mondays of June through August.
Tickets are $10. Registration required.
