She &Him, a duo made up of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, released on Tuesday its second album, “Volume Two.”
TRIVIA: Deschanel, best known as the actress from “Elf” and “(500) Days of Summer,” married Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard in September.
STANDOUTS: The love song “Home” gets bright treatment thanks to an upbeat piano, a few hand claps and Deschanel’s own pure vocals.
FANS DIG: AM radio.
ANDY SAYS: She &Him’s new album again balances the duo’s love for golden oldies with sun-dappled originals. It’s a testament to the band’s strength that its own 1960s-inspired material sounds perfectly at peace next to a couple of cherry-picked covers, including the 1964 country hit “Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now.”
GRADE: B-plus.
