Marine Corps Pvt. Travis A. Banks, a 2003 graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.

Marine Corps Sgt. John P. Morin, a 1997 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, is on deployment while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Members of Morin’s unit recently completed operations in Iraq, and the unit conducted more than 300 patrols in Southern Iraq.

Marine Corps Pvt. Matthew G. Haviland, son of Nancy and Douglas Haviland of Lake Stevens, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. Haviland is a 2003 graduate of Lake Stevens High School.

Navy Constructionman Jared A. Weisenburger, son of Pauline and Brian Schlieman of Lake Stevens, recently received a Letter of Commendation while assigned at Naval Station, Rota, Spain. Weisenburger was recognized for his superior performance of duty. He joined the Navy in February 2000.

Marine Corps Pvt. Taylor H. Bailey, son of Cathie Bailey of Stanwood and M.H. Bailey of Bellingham, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.

Marine Corps Pfc. Aaron C. Swanson, son of Geri and Larry Clark of Snohomish, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. Swanson is a 2003 graduate of Snohomish High School.

Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Wynndee M. Young, daughter of Westley Young of Oak Harbor, recently reported for duty with Marine Tactical Air Control Squadron 18, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan. Young is a 1998 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Marine Corps Pvt. Joseph F. Niles, son of Renee and Frederick Niles of Oak Harbor, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. Niles is a 2002 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Coast Guard Seaman Eric Jon Bernal, son of Sherie L. Zamora of Denver, Colo., and Timothy Bernal of Everett, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.
