MUKILTEO — Authorities were not able to locate a diver reported missing Friday morning near Mukilteo Lighthouse Park.

Around 9:15 a.m., two recreational divers were reported to be in distress, said Mukilteo officer Nathan Fabia. One, a 33-year-old Everett man, came to shore. The other, an Edmonds man, 33, remained missing into the evening. Several agencies searched the water, including the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard.

It appeared they had proper equipment for diving, Fabia said. But conditions were poor Friday morning and visibility underwater was minimal, he noted.

The Coast Guard was using an 87-foot patrol boat and a 45-foot rescue boat to search the waters around the park.

Around 4 p.m., after authorities covered over 100 square miles, the Coast Guard suspended its search. A dive team with the sheriff’s office was expected to go out Saturday morning.
