EVERETT — Washington State Patrol arrested on suspicion of murder the driver of a vehicle in a pursuit that ended in the water near the Edmonds ferry terminal on June 17.
The 29-year-old man reportedly drove the car involved in the pursuit, which ended with two dead and three injured, including the driver.
He was fleeing two traffic stops. One was in south Everett with Washington State Patrol, and another was with Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies a little further south, according to the probable cause statement from Washington State Patrol. The vehicle drove to the Edmonds ferry dock, drove off the dock and entered the water.
The driver told Washington State Patrol he was under the influence of meth and heroin, according to the statement. After being treated for his injuries at Harborview Medical Center, he was transported to Snohomish County Jail.
The two deceased passengers were women aged 48 and 45. The two other injured passengers were a 30-year-old female and 39-year-old male.
The driver is booked in Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of two murder charges, two vehicular homicide charges, vehicular assault and attempt to elude a police vehicle.
A follow-up investigation from Washington State Patrol detectives found the driver may have stolen the vehicle from his ex-girlfriend, according to the probable cause statement.
Detectives spoke to the registered owner of the vehicle, who said he let his granddaughter use it for the day — three days before the pursuit — the statement read. A counselor at an intensive outpatient treatment center the granddaughter attended said they picked her up after she was allegedly assaulted by the driver, who then stole the car, they said.
The driver faces three additional charges from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for assault, criminal mischief and controlled substance possession.
On Friday, a judge set his total bond at $2 million.
