EDMONDS — The Edmonds Police Department is buying back unwanted guns Saturday in exchange for gift cards.
Lasting from 9 a.m. to noon, the event will be located at Edmonds Public Works, 7110 210th St. SW.
Police said all guns being exchanged have to be “unloaded and secured in a trunk or trunk bed and accessible to officers.” The first hour will be reserved for Edmonds residents, while the next two are open to all Snohomish County residents.
All “qualifying” guns can be exchanged for Amazon gift cards, according to the department.
Everett police will host a similar event on Aug. 13. It’s the second gun buyback the Everett Police Department has organized.
The first event saw a huge volume of people returning their guns, with police collecting nine assault-style rifles, 109 long guns and 123 handguns. The gift cards were gone within two hours, despite planning the event to last four hours.
The August buy-back, in the old Walmart parking lot at 11400 Evergreen Way, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The department has twice as many gift cards to hand out, compared to the last event.
