EVERETT – Police arrested a former Everett man in connection with a 36-year-old cold murder case.
Everett Police Det. Susan Logothetti, in partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, arrested Joseph Andrew Jacquez on Saturday in connection with the 1989 murder of Mary Ann Daniels.
On Feb. 1, 1989, Daniels was found dead in her residence located at the time in the 2100 block of Hoyt Avenue. Daniels was a 33-year-old disabled woman who had been placed into transitional living by her caseworker.
In the decades following her murder, DNA technology has become increasingly sophisticated. Police identified Jacquez using forensic genetic genealogy from biological material left on Mary Ann’s body, the department said in a press release Tuesday. Police identified DNA from the actual instrument of her death as allegedly belonging to Jacquez, according to a press release.
“I want to commend our police department and our partner agencies for their dedication to getting justice for victims like Mary Ann,” said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin in a statement Tuesday. “My heart goes out to Mary Ann’s loved ones as they continue to grieve her loss.”
“Our investigators diligently pursue justice for the victims of violent crime in our community,” said Everett Police Chief John DeRousse. “We are thankful for Detective Logothetti’s perseverance in this investigation. Due to her hard work, this suspect will be held accountable nearly 36 years later.”
The suspect was booked into jail in Clark County, Nevada, and will be extradited to Snohomish County.
