EVERETT — Less than a week after being selected to fill a Lynnwood City Council vacancy, Rebecca Thornton withdrew from consideration.
On Feb. 20, the council unanimously voted for Thornton to fill the seat of former vice president Julieta Altamirano-Crosby, who resigned in January to serve as a commissioner for the Snohomish County Public Utility District.
Thornton notified Lynnwood officials of her decision just before 5 p.m. Monday, city spokesperson Julie Moore wrote in an email. Thornton was set to take her oath of office at the 6 p.m. council meeting that evening.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to withdraw from the position for personal reasons,” Thornton wrote in a statement to the Herald. “This decision was not made lightly, and I remain deeply committed to our community. I remain eager to find new ways to contribute and support the City’s goals in the future.”
The council plans to hold another vote March 10. They’ll choose between the other six final candidates: Forrest Baum, Nazanin Lashgari, Robert Leutwyler, Marie MacCoy, Jessica Roberts and Chelsea Wright.
