LAKE STEVENS — The Lake Stevens Sewer District has scheduled a public meeting to talk about increasing the size of its elected board of commissioners from three to five.
Staff looked at eight sewer boards, including Lake Stevens, according to meeting minutes. Five of them have five members, and three have three members. Some districts with five-person boards handle double, triple or, in one case, six times as much money as Lake Stevens.
Mayor John Spencer has proposed unifying the city and sewer district, an option contained in an agreement from more than a decade ago. He believes expanding the board is a way for the district to stall unification with the city. He urged people to attend the meeting.
The sewer district in an online post wrote that a larger board would ease increasing workloads, and would allow two commissioners to attend other public meetings without triggering a quorum of the sewer board.
The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at 1106 Vernon Road, Suite A.
