EDMONDS – An Edmonds lawyer has resigned from the Washington State Bar Association, saying he will stop practicing law and has promised to repay a former client $5,000. William Beresford chose resignation in lieu of being disbarred, according to an announcement Friday. In an affidavit, Beresford admitted no misconduct, but concedes that the association could provide enough evidence to support his disbarment. Among other things, the association’s disciplinary board charged Beresford with misappropriating money from a client, failing to put the funds into a trust account and testifying falsely. He became a lawyer in 1968.

Oak Harbor: Missing girl may have been seen

A 15-year-old girl who was reported missing last weekend may have been seen as recently as Wednesday near Arlington, police say. The last confirmed sighting of Elaine Sepulveda, nearly 5 feet tall and 115 to 130 pounds with brown hair and eyes and possibly four months pregnant, was about 2 a.m. Saturday, police Sgt. Jerry Baker said. Friends and family, including the girl’s mother, Mary Jiminez, say they have not heard from her, and Baker said Thursday that search-and-rescue dogs found no sign of her in the area. Three volunteer firefighters told police they gave a cold and hungry girl resembling Sepulveda some hot chocolate at a firehouse outside Arlington on Wednesday, and a fourth person said she visited that person’s home in the same area, Baker said. The girl appeared to be alone and was asking for food and money, he added.
