EVERETT — An adult male accused of attempting to stab his mother had a brief standoff with Lynnwood police before he surrendered Sunday.
Around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Lynnwood police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 18600 block of 42nd Place West. The woman and her husband were able to exit the home and meet with officers, while the son remained inside and refused to come out, according to a press release.
The woman, who was conscious and alert, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
The adult son, who reportedly suffers from mental health issues, surrendered after a brief standoff, the release stated. He was taken into custody for investigation of first-degree assault.
Police later discovered the man had a self-inflicted injury. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. Upon his release, he is expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail, according to police.
