EVERETT — Two men who died in an apparent murder-suicide in Everett late last month have been identified.
Early the morning of Jan. 24, an employee on Riverside Road called 911 to report gunshots he had heard, according to Everett police. When the employee went to investigate, he reportedly saw a man in a car with blood on his face.
Steven Valadez Jr., of Santa Cruz, California, was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from a gunshot wound, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office determined. Valadez Jr. was 28.
Two miles from the initial scene, police found an abandoned car in the 500 block of West Marine View Drive. It reportedly belonged a man who was believed to be suicidal based on a prior 911 call.
Later that day, a 911 caller reported a man’s body in the water near the 400 block of 14th Street in Everett, according to police. The medical examiner’s office identified the man as Nickolas Mazur, and the cause of death was suicide. Mazur was 31.
Detectives believe Mazur was the same person reported to 911 as suicidal, and the suspect in the Riverside Road homicide.
