GRANITE FALLS — After nearly three hours of deliberations Thursday, the Granite Falls school board selected Dana Geaslen as its next superintendent.
Geaslen has been an assistant superintendent at the Edmonds School District, where she has worked for just under six years.
The board voted 5-0 to hire Geaslen. The board is aiming to have a contract agreement by the end of next week. The current superintendent annual salary is $223,365. Geaslen is expected to start July 1.
Geaslen was born in Junction City, Oregon. She received her bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University, her master’s degree in education administration from the University of Phoenix, and her superintendent certification at Western Washington University.
Previously, she was the director of teaching, learning and special Services at the Camas School District in Clark County.
Her other experience includes being the director of student services and an elementary school teacher for the Selah School District in Yakima County; a special education coordinator and high school teacher for the Enumclaw School District in King County; and a high school teacher with the Bend-La Pine School District in Oregon.
This week, the board invited two other finalists to spend a day in the district: Edmonds School District Assistant Superintendent Greg Schwab and Thomas Brillhart, an assistant superintendent in New Albany, Indiana.
Granite Falls Superintendent Josh Middleton announced his retirement in 2023. He has been with the district for four years. His last day will be June 30.
The Granite Falls School District has 2,300 students in five schools.
