EVERETT — The Snohomish County Public Utility District will host a grand opening of its North County Community Office in Arlington on Saturday.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 17601 59th Ave. NE. Tours and lineman demonstrations will be from noon to 2:30 p.m.
The office will serve the northern part of the district’s area, including Marysville, Arlington, Darrington, Stanwood and Camano Island.
Currently, the district has offices in Arlington and Stanwood that were built in the 1950s and are “seismically deficient,” according to a press release from the district.
The new complex will include a two-story, 25,900-square-foot office space and a 12,000-square-foot warehouse. Starting Aug. 4, members of the public can use its 75-person auditorium.
In the building’s main parking lot, seven electric vehicle charging stations will be available to the public starting March 24.
“Our new North County office complex will help us serve our customers in this region better and meet the future growth that is expected,” President Sid Logan said in the press release. “I’m thankful to PUD staff for the planning and design that went into these buildings and the work that will benefit our customers for decades to come.”
Customers can still drop off payments at the Stanwood office until June 1.
The building is on the same property as the district’s clean energy center, community solar array and line training yard and will get electricity from the Arlington Microgrid project.
“In the event of a major disaster or large storm that impacts the main electrical grid, the new North County complex will act as a centralized hub for our crews and support staff as they work on restoration efforts,” CEO John Haarlow said in the release.
