EVERETT — Snohomish County Executive John Lovick now faces a Republican challenger in his election bid, in addition to fellow Democrat Dave Somers, chairman of the County Council.
Republican Robert Sutherland, of Granite Falls, filed paperwork with the county Elections Division on Thursday.
Sutherland, 55, is a retired biochemist who has never been elected to public office. He ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene last year and came in third during the primary.
Filing to run for office in 2015 continues through 4 p.m. Friday.
Ballots for the primary election will be mailed in July and are due by Aug. 4. The voters’ top two candidates for each race, regardless of party, move on to the Nov. 3 general election.
