LYNNWOOD — A key intersection east of Lynnwood will close for months this summer as crews build a roundabout.

The roundabout will go in at the four-way intersection where Larch Way meets Locust Way, near Logan Park. Snohomish County will close the intersection June 25, with plans to reopen it Sept. 4, ahead of the school year starting. Hilltop Elementary is less than a mile from the intersection.

The intersection is currently controlled by four stop signs. About 10,000 vehicles pass through daily. Crews will also build a pedestrian walkway.

Logan Park’s parking lot will be closed during construction, but the park is open to foot traffic. Work began at the intersection in May.

Highlighting the intersection’s importance, the two detours around the intersection are over 4 miles. During the closure, traffic will be diverted to Highway 524 and 228th Street SW.

The cost of the roundabout project is about $4.5 million. A nearby bridge, Swamp Creek Bridge 503, is also being replaced as part of the project, but that construction won’t begin until the roundabout is finished.

The bridge will be replaced at the cost of $3.1 million. The timber bridge, built in 1960, will be torn out and replaced with a modern concrete structure. Construction on that project is slated to begin in 2025.
