LYNNWOOD — A man was shot in the hand after he argued with another man inside a tent north of Lynnwood.
The scene played out in a greenbelt by the 13700 block of Admiralty Way, according to a police report.
The victim said he showed up at his tent early Sunday morning to find the suspect and a woman inside doing heroin, with needles and trash strewn about. He said he told them to leave.
The woman said the victim was being rude. According to her, she was making her bed when he showed up and started cussing them out.
“Dog, what’s your problem?” the suspect said, according to a witness statement from the woman.
Both men said the other pulled out a small-caliber handgun in response.
They fought over the gun during an ensuing struggle, documents show. The suspect gained the upper hand.
“I am going to put a bullet in your head,” he reportedly said.
Instead, he shot the other man in the hand, court papers say. The suspect then left with the woman.
The victim called 911 from a nearby gas station. He was bleeding when Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrived. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was told that most of his ring finger, from the knuckle down, had been shattered. He needed surgery and could possibly lose his finger.
Deputies caught up with the suspect and woman at a Starbucks shop. They booked the man into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The suspect previously was convicted of second-degree assault and residential burglary.
