50 years ago (1956)
The Everett Junior College golf team notched the Washington State Junior College championship in the tournament in Chehalis last Friday. Members of the team were Gordon Carpenter, Ken Mundy, Bob Brill and Jim Buselt. Brill Buselt tied for medalist honors with 74. Harry Simmermacher coached the Trojans.
Beatrice Wangerin was to perform a fast moving baton twirling dance at the Civic Auditorium when Cascade Chapter of DeMolay held its first revue. The public was invited.
25 years ago (1981)
Two Everett construction firms that had competed for more than 40 years were merging on June 1. Newland Construction would absorb Sanford Wright Construction, with the retirement of Sanford Wright. Wright would pursue other interests including a nursery in the Smokey Point area. Both firms had specialized in commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.
A movie that was filmed locally opened today at the Everett Mall Cinema III. “Bustin’ Loose,” starring Richard Pryor and Cicely Tyson, was a comedy about a teacher who brought some orphans from Philadelphia to a Washington farm. A four-minute chase scene was filmed on Snohomish streets in March.
