MARYSVILLE — The woman who died in a crash on I-5 as Marysville police pursued her last week has been identified.
Just after 2 a.m. Friday, witnesses reported two or three people were trying to break into cars in the 14500 block of 51st Avenue NE in north Marysville, according to police. Before Marysville officers got there, the suspects left in a black Cadillac Escalade.
Not long after, a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy reportedly found the Escalade backed into a driveway nearby. The driver appeared to be a man. The passenger was Lacey Ische, 32.
Ische slid into the driver’s seat and drove away, according to police. She drove directly into the path of a Marysville officer’s patrol car. The officer reportedly had to swerve to avoid a crash. This led police to establish probable cause to arrest Ische for second-degree assault.
Officers pursued the Escalade onto I-5 south. At one point, Ische drove across multiple lanes to exit the interstate and evade police. As she did so, police believe she lost control of the Escalade and crashed into trees along the highway.
Ische was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, where she later died.
On Wednesday, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Ische. She died of blunt force injuries.
Marysville police were investigating the alleged vehicle prowling. And the Washington State Patrol was conducting an independent investigation of the crash that killed Ische.
Trooper Kelsey Harding had no update on the state patrol investigation. She wasn’t sure how long that inquiry would take. A Marysville police spokesperson didn’t immediately to a request for an update.
