Regarding the May 12 Herald story about Edmonds’ new gateway sign (“Welcome to Edmonds — if you can read cursive”) I proctored SAT tests for ten years in the 1990s. Instructions were read to the high school students taking the test. Invariably, several would raise their hands and ask “what does cursive mean?” when instructed to sign their legal names in that manner. So, that ability was forfeited long ago.
