Another sign the Internet is taking over

Just like everything — movies, music, scams — presidential candidate debates are moving online. (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/04/23/100wir_a5debate001.cfm?refresh=yes) The front-runners are trying to decide how they feel about this new development:

John McCain: Might not participate. Still a bit sore over that debacle on his MySpace page. But he’s usually all about alternative formats for his message. He did announce his candidacy on “The Late Show.”

Hillary Clinton: Also leery of the Web after the 1984 Apple ad was remade with her face in Big Brother’s place. However, it would allow her to pretend technical difficulties when asked questions about Bill or her Iraq war vote.

Rudy Giuliani: In favor of the whole idea.

A comb-over won’t show up as well on Internet video. He might also take Clinton’s “technical difficulties” tack if asked personal questions.

Barack Obama: Strongly in favor of online debates. He knows he has friends in the virtual world. His Internet fundraising is going strong and some techie went to a lot of work to remake that ad for him.

Al Gore: He’s not a front-runner, of course, but if he enters the race, he’ll be a natural for this debate — he invented the Internet, ya know.
