Arguments in favor of track should be heard, too

We are writing concerning an article in The Herald about a group opposing NASCAR (“Arlington group opposes track,” April 15). We are residents of the Gleneagle community and were at the annual meeting where it was decided to start a petition drive against the track. We were two of the six or so residents in favor of the track. The 200 people who were there represented about 10 percent of the residents in Gleneagle and far less than 10 percent of the total population of Arlington, so in actuality we do not know how many supporters of the track there are.

We are also distressed that a representative of the airport group against the track was present to list all the negatives without a representative for the track to answer any questions. We believe in all fairness, a vote in the greater Arlington area should be taken only after all sides have had a chance to be heard.

We are a racing family and believe NASCAR to be wholesome family entertainment. We have had a son-in-law, his brother and our son drive at Skagit Speedway and raised our kids and grandkids at Evergreen and Skagit speedways, spend our weekends watching the Busch series races on Saturdays and NASCAR on Sundays, and would love to be able to attend in person.

There are some outstanding drivers coming out of Washington and it would be wonderful to support them in person.

Whatever the outcome, we hope it will be fair and that both questions for and against will be heard, and answered, before a decision is made by our friends and neighbors in Gleneagle.
