President Biden’s speech on Sept. 1 was a long overdue statement of the obvious: America is being threatened by a violent bully and a political party he has already defeated. He is asking the rest of America, “Do you like my face?” Any answer, be it Biden’s speech, a rejection by American voters, or a criminal conviction of the bully for his obvious crimes, will be construed as reason for violence.
In plain sight, the leader of the “law and order” party has authorized his violent goons to ignore the law. He has all but promised them pardons after he is installed as dictator. In plain sight, he himself has ignored the law with respect to government property and national security. In plain sight, he stood by for 187 minutes while his minions attacked police, threatened the lives of congresspersons and his vice president. And right now, in plain sight and for much longer than 187 minutes, he and the political party he controls are refusing to effectively condemn political violence. Because of that, America is about to be punched in the face.
But none of this could be happening without his sheepish followers among the Republican rank-and-file and the gelatinous spines of Republican “leaders.” How ironic that Republicans, wrapped in their flags and filled with pompous delusions of “patriotism” can’t see this bully for what he is. I pity them when they finally understand the role they’ve played in the destruction of our republic.
