Excellent essay from Marysville’s Ron Friesen (“If this doesn’t feel like America, what do we do?” The Herald, July 9). I would add that too many that fly our flag are perhaps our worst citizens. They seem to think that displaying “Old Glory” makes them “patriots.” I’m afraid that this country has lost its way. So many are so concerned about “their rights” that they ignore everyone else’s rights. It’s no longer “all for one and one for all.”
Those on the extreme left and right are so determined to push their own agenda that they ignore yours and mine. I’m right and you’re wrong and there’s no room for another opinion. Living your life as if your way is the only way is ignorance and intolerance.
Let’s hope things get better without a civil war to make us one again, because some seem to believe that conflict is the only way to get your way.
