Democrats share responsibility for student debt crisis

The comment on the student loan crisis by David Love was not quite correct in blaming the Republicans for the problem (“Student loan crisis stems from long war on higher ed,” The Herald, Dec. 30). Former Democratic Washington State Governor Mike Lowry declared his own war on higher education in 1995 by declaring that those who made more than $60,000 a year could well afford to pay much more and proposed his own legislation to change higher education funding.
