The 60-day window is approaching fast for the Republican Party.
That is the time before the November election when you will see Republicans that have pandered to and kissed the boots of Donald Trump for four years, start to pretend they are developing a spine in order to keep their place at the governmental trough.
Republican senators and representatives who have looked the other way during the Trump years; The ones that have ignored the firing of our military generals, the undercutting of the FBI, the purging of the U.S. diplomatic corps, and the Russian bounties on our soldiers, will begin to test the waters to try and seem like they aren’t morally bankrupt and might actually care about the rest of us. They’ll use some impressive double-talk such as “I might not possibly agree with the president.” Or “I think I remember forgetting to consider that position.”
They will try to pretend Trump isn’t the leader of the Republican Party, just a guy who happens to be president. But, like the rest of us, they know that Trump leads a Republican Party that is destroying America.
As despicable as their behavior has been, you’d think they’d be much more comfortable wearing masks.
As we approach 60 days, they’ll hope that all of the damage they have caused will be miraculously healed like Trump’s “bone-spurs.” They’ll be looking sideways for someone, anyone else, to blame while they keep one eye on that party trough and worry that the slop they have feasted upon may be running out. I certainly hope it has.
