Major projects started under Democrats

Ross L. Gillum has it completely wrong (July 25 letter “GOP planning for the future.”) The record shows that it was a Democratic County Council that raised mitigation fees on new development. The major projects that have been built lately were begun under a Democratic council: The 132nd Street extension, the River Road and the Willis Tucker Park at Cathcart.

Last election, developers who sided with Jeff Sax claimed that the Democratic-controlled council sat on mitigation fees – this was a falsehood. The record shows that the Democratic-majority council passed the first increase in mitigation fees in 10 years and every penny was allocated to projects that are still being built.

Speaking of last election, remember all of Sax’s “Fix this road” signs that lined the roadways? Do you think traffic is better? Of course not, because he has failed to keep the preponderance of his election promises. Sax wants to fix our traffic woes with greater growth. It’s like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

If you want results, not empty campaign promises, elect Dave Somers.
