More historical context needed regarding Ebey’s Landing history

I enjoyed the recent article “Whidbey wandering on the rugged Pacific Northwest Trail,” The Herald Juan. 24) until I read one sentence about the “native raiding party” that “beheaded” Isaac Ebey.
By not putting this into context, you do a disservice to the genocide inflicted on countless Native Americans. My understanding is that this attack was in retribution for the massacre of Native Americans by white settlers who decided to “take” the land now called Port Gamble. Let us remember that we are all living and working and occupying land that was brutally taken from the native peoples, and that their descendants are our neighbors and fellow citizens today.
