Road projects for Amazon’s Arlington site needed earlier start

Published 1:30 am Sunday, August 20, 2023

Amazon’s massive new Arlington fulfillment center has been a matter of record for at least three years (“Amazon’s mammoth ‘PAE2’ warehouse springs to life in Arlington,” The Herald, Aug. 15). The turtle-hearted Washington state Department of Transportation didn’t even announce plans to widen Highway 531 until last year, with a — wait for it — two- to three-year completion date. From now (“As Amazon moves in, Arlington road projects aim to ease traffic,” The Herald, Feb. 25).

If any more proof of how slow state bureaucracy moves, the proof is on super-congested, two-lane Highway 531.
