Occasionally, Washington Post columnist George Will surprises. His columns will be objective and fair. Unfortunately, his column of Oct. 16 — “Is deep-blue Washington due for a shock?” — is nothing more than conservative propaganda and a political ad for Sen. Patty Murray’s opponent.
Both Will and Smiley attempt to hold Murray responsible for crimes committed in Seattle. First and foremost, criminals are responsible for the crimes they commit. Secondly, it is the elected officials in Seattle who are responsible for the policies that direct law enforcement and the prosecution of those criminals. Its safe to say that everyone in the Northwest wishes Seattle leaders would get their act together, including Patty Murray.
Will goes on to say its odd Murray’s campaign is focused on abortion, when the Supreme Court restored abortion policy to states and that Smiley is opposed to federal legislation setting abortion policy and that she respects our state’s current abortion policy. We all know most conservative congressional candidates campaign to the middle and legislate to the right. In addition, who can forget those current Supreme Court justices who stated during their confirmation hearings that they accepted a prior court’s ruling on abortion?
Will and Smiley ask, if you like the trajectory of the country, vote for that other woman. I know I will. Murray and her party are for a woman’s right to choose as federal policy, as well as the rule of law and fair elections.
