Career: The classic overachiever parlayed his success at Everett High into a five-year NFL career. Nelson, a placekicker, was an All-American at Washington in 1982 and later went on to get cups of coffee with the Rams and Buffalo before spending his final three NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
Postscript: Nelson was enshrined in UW Hall of Fame in 1998. He now works as chief operating officer of Rigel Capital Management and is a serious golfer with a 3-handicap. He lives in Mill Creek with his wife and two children.
