Alcantara pitches AquaSox past Emeralds

The young left-hander doesn’t allow a hit over six innings as Everett wins 1-0 for its ninth victory in the past 10 games.

EVERETT — Behind a dominant outing from Raul Alcantara, the Everett AquaSox beat the Eugene Emeralds 1-0 on Thursday afternoon for their ninth win in the past 10 games.

The AquaSox went with an opener in the game as Bernie Martinez pitched the first inning and allowed no runs on one hit.

The Alcantara took over.

The 22-year-old left-hander did not allow a hit over the next six innings while striking out seven and walking four. Sam Carlson followed with a scoreless inning and two strikeouts before Logan Rinehart struck out the side in the ninth for his sixth save. In all, Everett pitchers struck out 13 and allowed just two hits.

The AquaSox’s lone run in the game came on an RBI triple from Axel Sanchez in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alberton Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a triple for Everett (38-33, 4-1 second half) and raised his batting average to .300 on the season.

Hayden Birdsong allowed just the one run of four hits in five innings for Eugene (36-35, 2-3).
